The experimental farm of Barrax area has been selected due to  its flat terrain and the presence of large, uniform land-use units. The summer are very hot and dry, and the area is characterized by water scarcity.

Water is supplied with pressurized on demand distribution system. Irrigation is on demand mainly with sprinklers.

About 65% of cultivated lands at Barrax are dry land (67% winter cereals, 33% fallow) and 35% irrigated land (75% corn, 15% barley/sunflower, 5% alfalfa, 3% onions and 2% vegetables).
